We were in the middle of science class going over boring notes when suddenly the principle of the school came on the announcement and said that we were having an immediate lock down before the lime was suspiciously ended and everyone got to their feet. The teacher immediately ordered all the students to the corner farthest away from the windows and the door and I slowly rose to my feet and headed for the door. I pretended to be grabbing the red bag that hung on the side of the wall but instead of grabbing it I slipped out the door and ran to the corner of the wall and slammed my back to it.
The air was cool and not far from any distance I could hear shooting of multiple guns unzipped my long workers type jacket and grabbed the gun hidden there in the side pocket. I loaded it and clipped it ready to fire. I then zipped up my coat shielding my suit and shoved the gun into my pocket as I heard some one coming. I frowned and knew that if I were to be discovered and who ever was coming knew I was with the organization id have to kill them as ordered directly from Jose. Hopefully it was one of our cooperates.
When the runner came around the corner Jose startled and pointed his gun at my head. As taught I grabbed the gun and twisted it out of his hand faster then he could blink and returned the same greeting. He nodded approvingly and I returned his gun with it faced down in a no threat motion.
“Good work Maya. I see your training has pulled off as usual.”
“Every minute counts sir.”
Jose nodded again and he put his back to the wall in the same posture I had before speaking again.
“The military is possibly going to help us but I’ve said no since I do believe you can take the boy out even though it will be a challenge. Consider the fact that he is just as much cyborg as you are and your objective is to take him out before he kills more people than he already has.”
“Affirmative”
“Make sure no more civilians are killed and watch your back. Ricoh and john are stalling him as long as they can but I think they may be injured so get there quick. Go around this corner and go up on the roof. Rick should be there with john and you’ll get a peek at the boy who is on the ground from there. Be careful and don’t fail.”
“Yes sir”
Jose gave me the ok to leave him there and I darted around the corner. I ran towards the suspended bridge that connected the two buildings surrounding me and I flipped onto the roof with a graceful leap. Jose always used me as a last resort since I was the most experienced fighter from doing nine years of training and a lot of discipline. It was my job now to capture the boy if possible and if not….. Let’s just say it won’t be a happy ending.
Ounce I reached the point where Rico and john could be seen the shooting was a pleasant sound to my ears coming from Rico’s machine gun. She was shooting constantly and I frowned when I saw Rico handler on the ground holding his shoulder as his blood dripped onto the ground ran up to him and knelt by him. I felt his pulse and he looked weakly at me from the corner of his eye.
“Are you alright john?” I asked studying the amount of blood that stained his jacket and the drops on the floor before meeting his dull gaze.
“Maya you have to end this now. Rico won’t be able to keep him occupied for very much longer.”
He looked at me seriously and I understood arose to my feet and went near Rico drawing my gun touched his shoulder and watched him wince before he stopped firing and slumped to the ground saw he was also wounded and bleeding worse than john and knew I had to end this now. Right now. I checked my gun to make double sure it was loaded before peeking over the edge and spotting a small figure hidden under the protection of a building roof and saw the gun in his hand as well as while looking around I saw the four bodies of three students and a teacher growled and leaped from the roof landing cleanly on the ground and taking cover behind a pole peeked from behind as I crouched and saw movements from the hostile as he loaded his gun.
“Why did you kill them!? They were just kids and an innocent woman!”
The figure stopped moving and in the silence I could hear a mocking laugh.
“Surely a woman like you would not be here. I wouldn’t think twice of killing her ounce she’s out in the open. How bout it? Let’s show our faces and confront this like gentlewomen.”
I shifted and said “how do I know your not going to play me out?!”
Another laugh and as I looked over the pole I watched as the figure moved from the shadows and I saw his face. Blue eyes black hair cyborg suit and a gun like mine. I was confused.
“Who are you?”
The boy seemed to be smiling still and I watched as the clicked his gun in ready to fire.” I used to be part of your organization before I decided to go solo and kill at will. Does that make you surprised or angry or perhaps scared?”
I stood but stayed behind the safety of my pole as I yelled, “maybe it is you who is scared boy!! I fear nothing and not death itself.”
I heard silence and I peeked out again to see the boy standing there and only looking in my direction. I snorted when I saw he had moved a step closer and tensed as I waited for his reply. Only my wits and cunning strategies could help me a fight against another cyborg. This boy would be no different than the last one I fought in Alistair. She was a good fighter and almost matched my skill level but even she tried her hardest to beat me. I ended the fight with a bullet on her chest.
I stood here now and when there was none I was going to make my move now before he gets the chance to miss my head leaped from the pole and pointed my gun in his direction only to that his gun was at my brain and he stood directly in front of me. “How did you-
“Predict your movements? It’s simple really sense peoples reactions to certain things and for you as you stood there I guessed you were going to jump out and try to fire.”
I gasped. This boy was a cyborg who could predict other peoples movements which means id have to change fighting tactics this time. The boy had a pleased smile on his face and I lowered my gun and tossed it to the side causing the boy to raise his eyebrows in confusion.
“You can predict my movements but only when you expect them to happen. So this wont is a gun fight but a fist one instead.”
His expression changed to serious killing business and I grabbed his arm which held the gun and twisted him to the ground snatching the gun and throwing it aside. He suddenly reflected my move and now I was on the ground with the boy’s knees digging into my elbows so I couldn’t move.
He laughed, “you are no match for me woman. I could take you down in seconds; all I need is my gun back.”
I snorted, “Too bad you don’t have it.”
I kicked him in the back with the ball of my knee and threw him off onto his back. Flipped backwards to a stand up position I leaped for my gun and pointed it at him only he had done the same and was the first to fire. The bullet hit me in the side and another shot went into my arm with a third going to my leg. I fell to the ground gun still in hand as blood spilled onto the pavement. The pain was excruciating could hear foot falls and a low half hearted laugh with the click of a ready gun and it being put to the side of my head.
“I told you were no match for me. I’ve never been beaten and that’s the way it’s going to stay.”
For a moment I went into darkness. Was this the end? Sixteen long years of being a cyborg self-doing nine long years of training after I was equipped with my abilities. They failed me now after all those years of serving me well. I’m going to die a tragic death and lose everyone I’ve cared for and protected. I’m sorry to all of you.
“Maya!”
I came back to reality and the gun was still to my head with the boy looking off somewhere. My head felt heavy as I turned it and saw Jose running gun pointed in the boy’s direction with him shouting my name over and over again. When the boy snorted and pointed the gun at Jose I still the gun in my own hand and it was ready to fire leaped. A shot fired through my shoulder blade before I whirled around and pointed the gun at the boys head and fired. The boy was dead before he hit the ground.
I was in agonizing pain but I had to look for Jose as my sight became blurred and helped him to his feet for he was shot in the arm. A shot I didn’t hear. When we got back to the others Ricoh was on his feet and after Jose was tended to I fell to the ground over loss of too much blood and before I passed out Ricoh’s face was the last figure I saw.
When I got out of the hospital weeks later I continued to work at Jose side. The boy’s body was said to have been removed by our team as far as Rico had said. In the newspaper anyway. Ricoh and I knew the truth and even now as I went to see the boy and train him myself as a reward for my success on the mission I still hated him in my gut. However my heart suggested a different feeling.
