| Prologue The silver bars that loomed over my frail and bare body still made me uneasy. Even after 17 years of being held captive here I never got used to the cold floor beneath me, the needles constantly being stabbed into my pale flesh and the collars they forced us to wear. There was a point that they'd give me cloths to wear, but recently when I turned 15 I started shifting frequently. All around me I could hear the shrill shrieks of pain and suffering form the other "test subjects" as they were tortured, poked and prodded with the same tools they used on me. My cell partner, an abnormally large Hyena with strange pelt markings laid curled up in a corner, shivering slightly as the scientists approached our cell number, and soon enough they were unlocking our cell. The man that spoke had a deep and gruff voice, I could just barely make out his words as I didn't know English. "You first 107" that was my name, I was sure of it. 107, thats what they called me and the hyena over there was 108. I whimpered slightly and lifted up my head slowly from the ground, turning my head so my bright yellow feline eyes were staring into the scientist's dark blue eyes. A desperate plead for help, if that didn't work this guy is going down. He walked over slowly and reached down, in an instant my pupils got smaller and a blood curdling hiss slithered out of my mouth, my finger nails pointing into claws and extending from my finger tips, causing them to bleed badly. In a fluid motion I leaped to my feet, scratching the guys arm and causing him to drop the painful shot he was going to give me. Running to the side of my cell I climbed up the wall, sneaking around the the front of my torturer and leaping so I lend onto the door of the cage, my hands wrapped around the bars. Hissing again I leaped, knocking the scientist onto his bad and pinning him like that. I sunk my claws deeply into the flesh of his shoulders and watched as blood stained the wait coat on him red in those spots. Smirking I opened my mouth, letting my teeth shift into sharpened fangs and I bit the point at the back of his neck, feeling the flesh in my mouth I bit harder and harder, his breath becoming shallower and shallower each growing moment as he called in a desperate and failed plea for help, at last he was dead. Smiling I pulled my teeth and claws back in and pulled his lab coat off, wrapping around myself to at least shield my naked body a little bit. I looked at 108 and smiled a bloodied smile, "come on! We're busting out." The hyena was instantly on his feet, running forward and out the door I had just opened, "thanks, 107." The first time he spoke so many years ago I was shocked, now it was normal so I nodded my head briefly. "No problem, but call me Grim."
Chapter 1 Whats most important The cold white titles were cold on my pale feet and sent shivers through my body. I could still feel the sticky crimson blood of the scientist on my face and I hated it. I only killed when it was most needed and living in this cruel world was worse then dead, it was like constantly teetering on the verge of life and death. The sirens over my head that flashed gave me a head ache and I wanted to rip them to pieces but that would waste time, my keen ears could already hear the feet of many guys approaching quickly and if I could, I would avoid killing. Turning I crashed into the wall sense my feet had no sort of grip on them and 108 came crashing across the floor after me, his browned pelt warming my bare leg that was sticking out from the white lab coat. "Crap" I remembered some of the scientists using that when they were in trouble, and I was in some pretty deep. "Grim! Hurry" when I finally regained myself 108 was already down the hall that was now marked with his claw marks. Shaking my head I cast a glance behind me before stumbling quickly across the floor, the door was nearing us I could actually see it now. A small smile curled onto my face and I progressed towards the door on quicker feet. As my hands connected with the cool surface of the door handle I pushed it open a stream of fresh air blew reddish blonde hair out of my face. The sunlight hurt my eyes, so I had to close them, but as it warmed my skin I instantly to a loving to the foreign source of energy. My yellow eyes snapped back open feeling something tugging at my lab coat soaked in blood. No doubt it was 108 reminding me there was a whole boat load of men chasing us. We didn't even have to exchange a word before we both took of running, our feet pounding across the rough and painful pavement. Only seconds later the men came out running and shouting, but they couldn't match the speed of a cat and a hyena. But maybe they had better stamina then a human girl who has never run a day in her life, and they could. I was gradually slowing down, running out of breath and my side was killing me. I noticed 108's dark blue eyes roll slightly. "Your so human" he said, nudging me slightly. "Come on, I'll let you ride on my back." I smiled slightly, it wouldn't be to hard for him to carry me. I was tiny for my age, I looked like I was 13 instead of 17 and he was about the size of a mini pony. Climbing onto his back I held onto tufts of his fur and leaned down low as he ran. Despite the situation we were in a small smile curved upon my face, the wind and sun on my skin and the world all around me filled with colors instead of grey. Most importantly, we were free.
Chapter 2 The lone hyena It was the cold wind that woke me up, and the first thing I noticed was we weren't moving anymore. I knew I had fallen asleep on 108's back but I wasn't sure how long I had been sleeping. "108" my voice was soft, encase the hyena was asleep. "Yes?" his voice was soft in melodic and as I turned to face him I noticed the smallest of cuts across his face. "What?" I pointed at his face to symbolize what I meant. "What happened?" I let out a faint snort of annoyance. He knew well that I didn't know proper English. "Well, just after you fell asleep there a barbwire fence, it proved difficult but I managed to get through with only a couple of scratches. " Letting a low sigh of relief slip from my mouth I yawned slightly. "Hungry." My voice was just a small whisper, there probably wasn't any food around anyways. The ground below us was covered in a cold white blanket. I only wondered for a second on how it had gotten there and what the heck it was before 108 interrupted my thoughts. "There should be something around..." he flashed me a mischievous smirk, which meant he was about to say something that made no sense. "Seeing as this is a Taiga biome." I didn't bother to ask what a Taiga or what a biome was, he'd just treat me stupid again. Looking at his face again he gave a questioning look and his green eyes drifted around. "I wonder if I can tackle a goose or hare..." he kept mumbling to himself so I just stood up to leave him alone. I was chilled to the bone by the coldness and the lack of clothes, maybe I could skin 108 and use his fur as a blanket. Chuckling slightly I curled up next to a tree the provided some shelter from the cold.

I don't think Grim had seen me left. She had wondered off just before I walked off. I felt bad for her actually, so confused about everything and she must be cold. A low snort escaped me, how could she have any pride walking around in the nude? I shrugged my shoulder's slightly before something caught my attention. I could hear something moving through the soft snow, something large. Letting a large smile creep onto my face I dropped lower to the ground and slowly started to stalk it. Getting closer I noticed a large brown and white creature with small stubby horns. A female caribou It would serve as hard but from what I could tell she was weak. Running outward I barked loudly, chasing the small family until I was able to single off the female. She was fast, and I was slower from lack of food. It would be hard to catch her but maybe I could. Narrowing my dark green eyes I let out a loud bark again. I was gaining on the creature, but as I neared it it kicked backward, it's hoof slamming hard into my skull. Thats the last thing I saw before slipping into the darkness. When I awoke, I was back at my home. Not the lab, but where I was born at. Instantly my mind registered this was a dream, I couldn't be back here. Plus as I glanced down my almost black paws were smaller, I was a pup. I was watching as the other's ran around outside, and it was as if I was back in my history, everything was exactly as I remembered. They were all running around, laughing and playing I found it quite appalling and after all these years, I still did. At this age I was as big as a full grown wolf and as smart as a full grown human. I was past ready to leave my home but something kept me rooted here. "Ethan, you should go play with the other pups." Hearing her words I grunted slightly, "they're absurd games don't amuse me." I rolled my eyes watching them kick around a small shell mom had found. "Whats the point in kicking a shell around?" My mom just breathed out a faint sigh and shook her head. You'd expect for me to be a prized position to my family, so large and so smart but they saw me as a defect. Before I could react I seemed to be in another moment from my past. The humans coming they chased my family away and managed to grab me. I let out a low whine as I was shoved into a small cage and taken far away. All along the road my cage was bouncing around and shifting making it even more uncomfortable. Then, I was in the lab. Grim was already there when I came, she was curled up in a ball with shredded clothes cloaking her body. At first we stayed away from each other but later we came to depend on each other. I taught her some English and she was kinda freaked out that I knew English but got used to it. We were huddled in a corner, my fur warming her as we talked. She'd ask me a lot of things about the outside world, which made me come to the terrible conclusion she was raised here. It was bad enough being fed stale left overs for food and being treated unmercifully but it be born in a place like this... That when I woke up. My head was throbbing and when I stood up I noticed the snow blotted with blood. Sighing I stood up on wobbly feet. As I stumbled back to our campsite I prayed Grim had woken up and found some berries, I also prayed she hadn't eaten the berries yet.
Chapter 3 The Demon Eyed wolf -Nocte's perspective-
Gruine's whole body was shivering. Even with his jacket on he still felt cold. It hadn't been long sense he was assigned to his resent task, track down some 17 year old. He smiled slightly, glancing down at the sketch in his hands of the girl. He wondered briefly if they were gonna kill her or if they would keep her alive, maybe Gruine would get a reward from he for bringing her home.
I shook my head slightly, forcing myself out of the young boy's mind. I was only trying to find where he was at, but all I could tell he was somewhere near by, because the forest he was in was snowy. I flipped my head so my eye patch fell back down to cover my left eye that was covered in a dark red with a darker red slit as a pupil. This eye was the constant reminder of how I had ended up on this god damn earth, but it was also a source of this new found power. Sighing I looked around until I noticed two pairs of fresh foot prints. One was an animal's tracks and the other's a human's. It wasn't Gruine that was sure but maybe the human had seen him around. It couldn't be that hard to find a boy with white and black hair and scratches extending up his face starting at his chin, two going up just past his lips and the other covering one eye, which causes that eye to be blind. At least Gruine thought that eye was blind. Gruine couldn't see out of it, that was certain but if I took my eye patch off I would be able to get into his head, use that one eye as my own to see what he sees. This could only happen rarely seeing as it drained my energy majorly. Sighing I shook my head and continued on the path, that is until I noticed the girl wearing a bloody lab coat and the overly large hyena. I was going to turn away, but it was to late the girl saw me, and it was unmistakably the girl Gruine was looking for. "Any food?" the girl was rather strait forward on asking for food. "Grim, that's a sentence fragment" the Hyena who had just spoken seemed rather annoyed, whatever the reason I wouldn't stick around to find out. Letting out a low whine I lowered my pale furred body close to the ground in a weaker stance. Oh how I hated this but it was what I had to do to play it cool. The Heyna bared his teeth, "stop acting like a lesser being, its more then obvious your not a normal wolf. I mean seriously, you have an eye patch and that look in your eye... its one of intelligence." I snorted and straitened up before sitting down. "You seem to be rather smart as well." I wasn't fond of making little meaningless chats, I never have been in life or in death. The girl looked confused now and just sat back biting at her nails. I couldn't help but notice she was naked. I couldn't understand why she was only wearing a lab coat, maybe she was a major whore. Well whatever her reasons were I forced myself to keep my eyes on the hyena instead of.. "So what are you?" I once again forced my gaze on the hyena as he prowled towards me. "An angel.." I muttered looking down at the ground. I wasn't lying completely, I was an angel technically. Noticing the look in the hyena's eyes like he was about to ask a question I quickly reverted the subject away from me. "Nocte the angel, and what are you?" "An intelligent and large hyena named 108." I tilted my head slightly, "that was rather boring, and I thought he were intelligent, wen you said your name is a number." "It was his number in the laboratory, we each had one but I chose to pick a new name unlike him." I glanced briefly at the naked girl before blushing slightly in embarrassment and turning away. "So then whats your name?" I glanced at her once more to let her know I was talking to her. "Grim" she said, looking confused slightly. "Nice to meat you Grim and 108, I wish I could stay longer but I really most be--" "Nocte!" I turned slowly hearing Gruine's familiar voice. "Oh hello" I turned to face the other two. "This is Gruine, I'm traveling with him because... well I'm his guardian angel."
Chapter 4 Betrayal Gruine's Perspective-
I instantly reached my hand down, taking a firm grip onto one of the dagger's Nocte had given me. "Nocte..why are you socializing with her? You know darn well shes my target." My slightly pointed teeth were clenched and my bright blue eyes narrowed nearly to slits. "And drop the act Nocte! You know I'm angry" I took a step forward, pulling my dagger out. Watching as Nocte's eyes widened I tried to get to the girl quicker but before I knew it Nocte had had shattered, shifting into small particles that reformed quickly behind me and bit my ankle, holding me back. "Gruine, you don't even know why you were sent to assassinate her.. she could be innocent." As always Nocte's voice stayed level, never raising about a slightly louder whisper. Nocte was really getting on my nerves with all this. He knew I was an assassin, I killed and captured to make a living, but he had some weird thoughts that I need to change, and not kill people for money. For a second I actually thought he made sense, but I was empty pocketed and needed the money. Pulling away from him I glared at the girl and slowly sheathed my dagger. "I was instructed not to kill her, just bring her back, and this is paying pretty good so I will do as I was told." I walked forward slowly, this time Nocte didn't stop me. Seeing the girl pretty much naked and grunted and took off my jacket, then my shirt and threw it to her. "Put that on and at least ACT civilized. I really liked that shirt, it was plain black but I'd rather her have it so I don't have to walk around with a naked girl. I slipped my jacket back on and zipped it up then waited for her to get dressed in my way to big shirt that went down to her knees even though I was obviously younger. Grabbing a rope I tied her hand to mine and started walking. "Your weird hyena better not attack me." She laughed slightly and shook her head signaling he wouldn't. "I can talk for my self ya know." Blue eyes wide a twisted around only to find Nocte and the hyena stand in the snow. I shouldn't have been surprised seeing as I have a talking angel wolf with an eye patch that can turn into a human, but I was. I shrugged, this mission seemed more bothersome then I thought.
Chapter 5 Friends and Enemys -Grims journal-
I had been talking to the wolf names nocte sense we left our previous hide out. He's been talking to me mainly about Gruine, whenever I turned the subjected on him he just turn it back on Gruine. I don't think Gruine likes me very much, he jerks me around a lot and hardly talks to me but he was nice enough to give me clothes... That's all that counts.
-Grim's perspective-
I looked up from writing in the black leather note book Nocte had given me a few days again. 108 said that it had been 3 days, and I wondered where Gruine was taking me. At first I thought he was taking me back to the lab, that's how it seemed but I didn't know at the time. "Is something bothering you Grim?" I looked over at the pale wolf when he spoke. "Where is Gruine taking us?" My voice shook a little but I managed to speak with proper English. The angel looked over at Gruine and sighed. "Gruine... He has a complicated history as well as personality. He isn't a bad guy but he doesn't always make the right choices. That's why I came to him when he was thirteen, to guide him. Right now... Well I think he is trying to decide what to do." Glancing over at Gruine I let out a low sigh. He looked younger then me but was way taller, he was maybe 15 so I guessed ti must be rough for him out here. From then on we didn't talk, just walked on and on through the snow, following Gruine's path. The snow was cold on my pale bare foot and finally I just stopped in all, Gruine couldn't keep us going like this. "What are you doing?" Gruine had lashed around angerly to face me and was now glaring at me with those bright blue eyes. Well at least one was blight blue, one was more of a foggy pale blue color, I don't know hwy but the difference was obvious. "Don't going" I knew that that wasn't proper English after I had said it but 108 was still quick to correct me. "I'm not going." I found it amazing that the strange hyena always knew what I meant, he was pretty smart. Gruine's loud snort brought me out of my trance. "And why not?" He crossed his arms over his plain white jacket, his grey and black hair blowing in the wind. I had gotten distracted by is hair. It was so pretty, but I think he dyed it because it was so unnatural. A dark grey color, filled with black highlights and the tips of is bangs were completely black. His hair was long for a guys, and it was obvious he needed a hair cut as it went down to about his chin in the front and was shaggy in the front but for some reason not as shaggy in the back. "Hello!" Gruine exclaimed, making me pay attention again. "Oh, where are we going?" That was one of the most simple things 108 had taught me, 'where are we going.' He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm taking you to the last Inn me and Nocte rested at." I smiled brightly. "An inn? Whats that?" Subconsciously I had began to jump up and down on my tiptoes. Gruine raised an eye brow and let his eyes follow me as I bounced up and down. "Its like a home you can stay in for a while. Nocte and I still have a room there, so we wont have to pay. Which is good considering I'm broke." My eyes widened, "your broke? Humans can BREAK?" At this I literally had a spaz attack. "Need a power up or something? What about..." I shut my eyes tight as I thought about something he would need. 'Food?" The smallest of smiled creeped onto Gruines features that were usually angry or stern. "No we cant actually break. But sometimes we can hut ourselves, like start bleeding or break a bone." The younger human pushed his hair away from his eyes. "Yeah, I'm starving, when we get to the Inn lets grab some grub."
-Grims journal- I must say I think Gruine and I have grown closer within the passing days. Even after 10 days at the Inn though he still keeps me on ropes, and surprisingly no one questions it. (Author's note: The world they live in is actually a fictional world.) All of them have been helping me with English, whenever I say something wrong they're mighty quick to correct me. Well, whatever i still think that we're gonna become great friends.
-Grim's perspective- I stuck the pen in the place where I had last been writing. "How much longer are we staying here?" The question was directed at Gruine but I wouldn't mind if anyone else answered. I watched as Gruine took the finishing bite of his waffle. Then wiped the syrup away with the pale corner of a napkin. "Well I'm planning on getting out of here tomorrow, maybe teaching you how to fight properly..." I could tell by the way he trailed off that he was still debating if he should take me back yet. "We're leaving tomorrow" he said as a final answer, picking up his leather bag and hurriedly walking up the stairs with it. Of coarse Nocte followed him, Nocte always followed Gruine it was like the two were bound together. With a slight sigh I didn't even bother to finish up, just followed them up the stairs. I'd always had light foot steps, so I didn't think they heard me coming. I knew they didn't when I heard them talking in soft voices. It wasn't hard for me to hear them, so I stayed where I was at on the other side of the closed door, just listening. "Gruine, I said you couldn't just take her back to the laboratory, this didn't mean you could keep her." I peeked through the crack in the door, instead of seeing an angel wolf talking I saw a man, he looked like he was in his early twenties and had very light blonde hair. Torn up black jeans and was now putting on a plain white T-shirt. I knew it was Nocte, one because the eye patch and two because of his voice. Not to mention that eyes, so bright gold and radiant it was almost to hard to look him in the eye. "Nocte, I don't know what to do with her.. before I found her she was living in the forest with no clothes but that bloody lab coat. I couldn't just leave her out there, aren't you supposed to be an angel?" Nocte's eyes rested on the ground, his face becoming suddenly very sad. I didn't ever believe he was an angel, he wasn't as pure as I expected an angel to be. Mainly the only thing he did that was angelic was tell Gruine what was right and wrong. Something about him was just off.. I didn't catch anymore of the conversation cause that was around the time I felt someone pull me backward, cuffing my mouth and pulling me into the room across.
